One simple tool, useful everywhere

What is a blue screen for?

01

Run a blue screen test

A solid blue field drives only the blue subpixels, so dead pixels stay black and stuck red or green ones show up as obvious coloured dots.

02

Use a plain blue background

Fill a spare monitor, tablet, or phone with flat blue behind a product shot, a video call, a stream, or a photograph of a small object.

03

Add cool screen light

Dim the slider and a display becomes a soft blue accent light for a desk, a shelf, a camera setup, or a room that needs a cold cast.

How it works

Your blue screen in 2 steps.

  1. Open the screen. Press the large button above or click the blue preview.
  2. Go fullscreen. Use the browser permission prompt, then press Escape whenever you are done.

A practical colour guide

The blue screen test, explained.

What a blue screen is for

A blue screen is a display filled edge to edge with a single flat blue and nothing else on it. There is no text, no logo, no gradient, and no image competing for your attention. That plainness is the entire point: a single even field is the quickest way to inspect a panel, put a saturated colour behind a camera, or turn a spare screen into a cool light source.

This page gives you that surface online for free. Press the button or click the preview, allow fullscreen, and the browser interface disappears until you press Escape. Nothing installs, nothing uploads, and no account is involved.

How to run a blue screen test for dead pixels

Open the blue screen in fullscreen, clean the display first so dust is not mistaken for a fault, then look slowly across the whole panel. A dead pixel stays black on blue because it never lights. A stuck red or green subpixel appears as a small dot of the wrong colour. A patch that reads purple or teal rather than blue suggests uneven subpixel output.

Blue is particularly useful because it is the dimmest of the three primaries to the human eye, so a bright defect is easier to notice against it than against white. Run the same check on the red screen, the green screen, the white screen, and the black screen too. A mark in the identical position on every colour is far more likely to be a panel defect than a smudge or a reflection.

Blue screen of death versus this page

Many people arrive at a blue screen after Windows has shown them one. The blue screen of death, or stop error, is a crash screen: it fills the display with blue, prints an error code such as a memory management or driver fault, and usually restarts the machine. It appears without being asked for and it means something went wrong.

This page is the opposite. Blue appears only when you tap or click, every control stays one keypress away, and Escape always returns you to the site. If you are troubleshooting a real stop error, note the exact error code shown, check for recent driver or hardware changes, and work from there — this tool cannot diagnose it.

Using a blue background for photos and video

Flat blue is a genuinely useful backdrop. Photographers use a monitor filled with a solid colour to light a small object from the side, add a colour cast to a scene, or create a clean field behind glassware and jewellery. On a video call, a phone or tablet propped behind you gives a colour accent that a printed sheet cannot match for evenness.

For streaming, blue is a common accent for cold or nocturnal scenes. It is worth noting that blue is not the standard for chroma keying video — that is a specific green or blue cloth with even lighting, not a screen behind a subject. Use this page as a light source or a background element rather than a keying surface.

Blue light, brightness, and comfort

Blue sits at the short-wavelength, high-energy end of the visible spectrum, which is why so many devices ship with a night mode that filters it out after dark. A full-brightness blue screen in an unlit room is genuinely intense, and it is the colour most likely to feel harsh after a few minutes.

The brightness slider scales the colour smoothly, so you can move from a vivid electric blue down to a deep midnight tone that sits comfortably in a dark room. If you want a warm surface instead, the yellow screen and orange screen pages cover the other end of the spectrum, and the dark red screen is the usual choice for keeping your eyes adapted to darkness.

Download a blue background or wallpaper

When you need a file rather than a live page, the download control generates a plain blue background in your browser. Pick HD 1920 by 1080 for a desktop, 4K 3840 by 2160 for a large panel, 1080 by 1920 for a phone wallpaper, or 2048 by 2048 square for design tools that expect equal sides.

PNG keeps the colour exactly as specified and is the safest choice when the blue has to match a brand or a design token. JPG produces a smaller file for everyday use, and WebP compresses well wherever it is supported. Every file is flat colour with no logo, texture, or watermark.

Compare blue against at least one other solid colour before you decide a panel has a fault, and judge it with your own eyes rather than through a camera. Blue is a starting point for a screen check, not a verdict.

Blue screen FAQ

What is a blue screen test?

A blue screen test fills the whole display with solid blue so you can inspect it for faults. Because blue drives only one of the three subpixels in each pixel, anything that appears black, red, green, or white on the field stands out immediately.

Is this the blue screen of death?

No. The Windows blue screen of death is a crash screen with error text that appears without being asked for. This page is a blank blue surface you open on purpose and leave with the Escape key. Nothing here can crash or change your computer.

What blue is used on this page?

The screen is #2563EB, which is RGB 37, 99, 235. Copy the hex value with the copy button, or lower the brightness slider for a deeper navy-leaning blue.

Can I download a blue background?

Yes. Use Download image to save a plain blue background as PNG, JPG, or WebP in HD, 4K, mobile, or square dimensions. The file is drawn in your browser and has no watermark.

Does a blue screen hurt your eyes?

Bright blue is the most energetic part of a display and can feel harsh in a dark room, especially late at night. Drag the brightness down, sit further back, and stop if it feels uncomfortable.
